These are single line drawings. Each figure is drawn in one single ‘flourish’, without lifting the pen from the paper. An extra, self-imposed rule in these was to ‘close the circle’ by starting and finishing the line at the same point.

Although they are drawings of figures, they are related to the signature paintings. It is the quality of line that was my focus. I wanted to achieve the concision, flow and knowing spontaneity seen in signatures. The 40 drawings here, most with simple added colour elements, were completed in Spring 2007. They are small works, averaging around 4”x4”.
